4 Paths to Midlife Purpose.

Many of us have "purpose performance anxiety." We feel dazed and confused about why we're here on earth while we believe all of our friends are deeply entwined with their purpose. It's almost like we're the only person on our cul-de-sac without a BMW, and we feel ashamed. If that's even 10% true for you, reread this paragraph and laugh at it with yourself. It's time to take life a little less seriously.

If I were to distill the fastest path to feeling a sense of purpose, it would be based on this shortcut set of questions:

  1. What excites you?
  2. What agitates you?
  3. What are you curious about?
  4. What’s something from earlier in your life that you loved, but feels forgotten?

We need to be asking these questions for ourselves as society hasn’t created a midlife roadmap. Only 15 percent of people aged 45-54 have received career advice in the past three years, compared to two-thirds of those aged 16-24. It makes sense historically, but in a world where many of us will be working into our 70s and 80s, we must create a purpose pitstop in midlife.

“Cultivating Purpose” is one of our curriculum’s three MEA core pillars. Find some workshops and online programs focused on purpose HERE.
