My friend, Sian-Pierre, made a terrific documentary, “Duty Free,” with a subplot of taking his working-class mother on a world tour to accomplish her Bucket List.
And while I’m all for any bucket list that adds to the quality of one’s life, I think this era necessitates—excuse my French—a “Fuck-It” List. This list is based upon how much time we actually have on our hands. Of course, this list isn’t glamorous. It’s a “fuck it, I don’t have any excuse to put this off anymore” kind of list. Fuck it, I’m finally going to go vegan. Fuck it, I’m going to write my memoir, create a garden in my backyard, mend an old friendship. Fuck it, I’m going to volunteer for a non-profit that is doing something meaningful in the world. Fuck it, I’m going to do what I’ve always wanted to do.
Go ahead…pull out a piece of paper and start making your list today.
Generations ago, kids used to ask, “Daddy, what did you do in the great war?” Years from now, people will ask you, “What did you do when the world shut down in 2020?”
Now is the time to say, “Fuck It!” And then do it!
