Ageism Activist Ashton Applewhite at MEA.

What a treat it was to have TED speaker Ashton Applewhite (and her colleague Virginia Hamilton and husband Bob Stein) join us in Baja for Sabbatical Sessions the past couple weeks to converse about how we end ageism. Her book “This Chair Rocks” and her online clearinghouse Old School are foundational to our process of creating “cognitive liberation” around the subject of age.

In this video in one of the MEA living rooms, Ashton outlines some ideas for how we can address ageism in our own lives as well as take this awareness out into the world. Ashton is our modern day Maggie Kuhn, the firebrand activist who started the Gray Panthers because she was forced to retire at 65 (in 1970) because of the mandatory retirement laws at that time. Thanks, Ashton, for all you’re doing to create a 21st-century movement.
