Thanks to Pamela Adams for this exquisite, seasonal quote from author Sophie Strand. It reminds me that everything is cyclical, including our own lives. I’ve always found autumn to be a little melancholy with the flourish of colorful leaves at the end of the season. It’s a time to let go and reminds me of meditation teacher Jack Kornfield’s wisdom, “In the end, just three things matter: How well we have lived; How well we have loved; How well we have learned to let go.”
It was such a treat having writer Pico Iyer with us in Santa Fe this summer (he’ll come back next summer) as his book “Autumn Light” is a contemplative reminder of the impermanence and beauty of nature’s cycles. Autumn is a metaphor for the transience of life. It’s a time that calls us to slow down, take stock, and appreciate the present, not just for its vibrancy but for its ephemerality. It’s a time for us to shed our own burdens, expectations, and preconceptions.
What’s your experience with autumn?
