Capturing Your Aging in Photos with Friends.

When I read this CNN story about five guys from Southern California who’d captured themselves in the same photo at a lake house every five years for 40 years, I immediately thought back to my three best friends in high school: Alan, Eric, and Mike.

Ironically, at about the same age that these guys took their first photo, the four of us Long Beach dudes regularly went to our family lake house (Lake Arrowhead). We also took an epic photo, although we never followed up every five years. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the photo. But, I wonder what I’d see if I did.

What I take from the photo above isn’t how our bodies soften but how our personalities harden. Over the course of the nine photos, you can see an evolution of archetypes. From left to right: athletic, rebel (notice the hair over time), studious (a teacher), brash, and serious.

Who would be in your photo album if you could capture yourself and a few friends every five years for 40 years? And, what character quality or archetype would you consistently see in your photo for 40 years?
