These are some of the results of a recent Great Lakes Wellness organization poll. Don’t worry, the results showed all kinds of positive signals as well, including:
- Three-quarters of the 2,000 respondents agreed that age is not something to fight or fear but rather an opportunity to live a more fulfilling and emotionally healthy life.
- 71% say their lives have improved with age, and 75% want to spend less time fighting their own aging and more time doing what they love.
- Two-thirds of respondents actually feel younger than they are—nearly a decade younger, on average (although what does it really mean to feel younger than you are?)
- The top 4 benefits of aging: Learning new things about themselves or the world every year, Having more life experience, Gaining wisdom, and Being more confident.
As most of you know, Yale’s Becca Levy has shown that when people shift their mindset on aging from negative to positive, they gain 7.5 years of additional life. What’s one step you can take this month to focus more on being useful and less on being youthful?
