But, now that we were open, we were also empty. I had just “fired” our biggest client, aka, Vinny the pimp, along with his girls. What the hell was I going to do to fill our 44 guest rooms on a nightly basis? At the end of one particularly painful week, I pulled out an empty journal, wrote “The Wisdom Book” on the front and started writing everything I’d learned that week.
Ever since that day in 1987, on either Friday afternoon or over the weekend, I’ve continued to create a list of what I learned during the week, with the understanding that metabolizing lessons is the most efficient way of cultivating and harvesting wisdom.
