The timing was uncanny as we’d just published our Baja Discovery Guide which is perfect for those of you who either want to extend your time here when coming for a workshop or want some guidance about how to spend your time when experiencing our Re*fresh Wellness Vacation this Thanksgiving week or for the three weeks over the holidays (make a reservation soon as rooms are filling up).
As you’ll see in this recent video of me laying in a small pond amidst the crashing waves, I love it here so I wanted to offer you my top 10 things I love doing as your concierge for you when you join us.
- Hiking. There are so many great places to hike including the headlands on the way to Cerritos (just above where the video was taken), the waterfall hike, the Old Port hike, or walking to the north part of Pescadero beach (San Pedrito) and back.
- Beaching. Whether it’s swimming, Boogie boarding, surfing, walking, or drinking a cerveza at the beach bar, nearby Cerritos is a gem, but I prefer the wild horses and Costa Rica-like feeling of Las Palma beach.
- Eating. Famous chefs come to our little hamlet to check out the restaurants and there are more than a dozen great ones including Hierbabuena, Coyote, DUM, the Green Room, Jazamango, and Benno. I don’t know a place that has more great restaurants per capita. And, of course, Tony’s food at MEA is epic!
- Flora Farming. One of my favorite spots in the world is Flora Farm in San Jose del Cabo with its amazing restaurant and bar, beautiful farm and garden, lovely cottages, and stylish boutiques.
- Shopping. Todos Santos isn’t necessarily a shopping mecca but it has a few great galleries and some great clothing and gift stores.
- Backroading. Baja is famous for its dirt roads and beautiful desert vistas. If you love driving aimlessly with a camera, this is the place for you.
- Communing with Nature. Whether it’s watching baby whales birthing in Magdalena Bay, swimming with whale sharks and sea lions in the Sea of Cortez, witnessing sea turtles birthing on the beach in front of MEA or birding anywhere in the area, this is an awe-some place!
- Shamaning. How many resorts have their own in-house shaman? Saul Kuperstein has been delighting MEA guests with insight and love for a half-dozen years.
- Massaging. We have three remarkable massage therapists, but you also have talented pilates instructors, chiropractors, and holistic healers within walking distance of the MEA campus.
- Reading. We have hammocks and day beds to mix with the more than 800 books – mostly on the topics of transitions, purpose, wisdom, and midlife – that we have in our library.
Hope to see you here during Thanksgiving week or over the holidays.
-Chip
P.S. I know many of you are fans of Maria Popova’s “The Marginalian” newsletter which just celebrated its 17th anniversary with 17 Life-Learnings that are worth reading and reflecting upon.
