Let me introduce you to someone who doesn’t care about old or young, but instead focuses on being good enough.
Almost exactly a year ago, John Goodenough received the Nobel Prize at age 97 having invented the lithium-ion battery late in life. Click on the link above to learn more about how this accomplished soul has never cared whether he was old or young enough to be doing what he was doing.
Which brings me to this video from my desert walk from a couple days ago. An old cactus. Probably having graced this planet for 150 years. Decaying one day a time. Losing its skin so we can see its spine. And, yet, on one of its limbs there is a new cactus outgrowth demonstrating that, until we die, we can still grow.
The next time someone tells you (or you tell yourself) you’re not old or young enough to do what you’re doing, just remind them that you’re “good enough” and that’s all that matters.
