The Year of Living Deliberately.

I’m not Mel Gibson. And you’re not Sigourney Weaver. So, we’re not going to replay the film “The Year of Living Dangerously,” set in Indonesia during a time of extreme political turmoil.

But, there’s no doubt 2020 is an extreme year. What adverb can define this era? “Deliciously?” Far from it. “Deliriously?” Not bad, but not aspirational enough. “Debauchedly?” Yep, on certain days, but not the whole year.

I vote for “Deliberately.” The word means “to engage in long and careful consideration.” Maybe that’s what shelter in place and quarantines are all about. Meanwhile, wisdom is defined as “the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgment.” Put the two together, and you have “deliberate wisdom,” which would mean engaging in careful consideration of what we’ve experienced in life to distill what’s essential or important.

How about you? Have you spent some time “living deliberately” this year? We’re over halfway through 2020. If you haven’t done a deep dive yet, keep your MEA ear to the ground as we’ll be introducing something new in the next couple of weeks that will help you reflect and deliberate more deeply.
