To My MEA Community.

This New York Times Op-Ed, “You Can Be a Different Person After the Pandemic,” prompted me to write this ode to the past year.

I can’t go back to the life “before.”
Don’t fit into that shoe anymore.
I want to find those who make me whole.
Tired of hangin’ with folks who take their toll.

A collective near-death pandemic
Revealed ills, sadly systemic.
Problems that aren’t just social maladies,
They’re also my personal realities.

I saw how much I need a stage and applause
But now I was alone on a beach in La Paz
Solitude forced an internal reckoning.
I learned to breathe and felt a beckoning.

I moved nearer to God with every big “ouch”
As She scooted closer to me on our celestial couch.
The pandemic gave me freedom to cruise the shoreline
To ramble in nature and spy on the divine.

As we move into a post-Covid transition
I must make my humble admission.
Looking forward to a life that’s normal and blissful,
I can’t help but feel nostalgic and wistful.

I’ve been granted the blessing for a grand reset
Habits, fixations, and peeves, meant to forget.
Few have seen me in over a year.
They’re more focused on themselves than how I appear.

While Covid’s wrath has tilted me temperamental,
I’m also feeling a tad bit sentimental.
For maybe this crisis was an opportunity
To say how much I love and cherish my community.

Thanks to my MEA and Wisdom Well community for your support this past year!
