It’s ironic that I reconnected with my subconscious on the subcontinent (India). In my default world, my subconscious is there – just underneath the surface – influencing my behaviors and emotions, but I don’t give it the time of day. It’s ceaselessly whispering to me, but I’m often deaf to the messaging.
How do we tap into our subconscious? We disrupt our habits and typical linear thinking. For me, it’s meditation that creates the channel for my subconscious to come to the surface. There are a couple of photos attached at the end of this post that suggest that you have to find an idyllic swimming pool on an Indian lake to meditate (Oren snapped these secret shots of me). Nope! My favorite brief mediation of this trip was being in a tiny, three-wheeled TukTuk vehicle stuck in traffic while the mosque call to prayer was blasting amidst the honking horns. Truly, I had a smile on my face when I realized that, even in those conditions, I could find some tranquility.
What were the subconscious thoughts that floated to the surface on this two-week India trip?
- When I first moved to Baja, a year before the epiphany of MEA emerged, I told myself that it was time to be more “spacious and free” in my life. Then, I jumped on the MEA treadmill. While I have a full schedule of teaching next year, I have many weeks when I’m not teaching. I’m going to spend more time on vacation – even if it’s a few long weekends around Mexico.
- I want to spend more time getting lost in my writing. I birthed a manifesto on this journey. You’ll hear more about it soon as I’m turning it into a book.
- My dreams were so vivid in India. It felt like my soulful wifi had a full five bars. And, many of those dreams contained messages about how I’m supposed to curate my life. I’m going to keep a dream journal next to my bed from now on.
- To be wise and healthy is to be wealthy. Beyond connecting deeply with others, my primary focus for the rest of my life is to create the conditions for me to be wise and healthy and I’m going to continue to explore what I need to do to make that happen.
