Could You Imitate Brené Brown This Summer?

“Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds. To seek out new life and new civilizations. To boldly go where no man has gone before!”- Preamble Star Trek TV

Are you ready for your “final frontier?” Brené Brown seems to be ready. In this recent “Creating Space” blog post, she announced that she’s taking a 14-week sabbatical this summer.

What makes her announcement so notable is that she recognizes that taking a sabbatical can affect others, which is why her organization is taking a social media and podcast hiatus all summer. She’s also asking her team to take an extra four weeks of summer vacation. Smart human, that Brené Brown!

If you’ve never taken a sabbatical before, you might consider letting MEA help. This summer, from July 17 through October 2, our Baja campus is dedicated to Sabbatical Sessions, longer stays with lighter programming. Although, some people come for as short as just a week. Choose what works best for you.

The folks we know who love summer in Baja are the long-timers—who have experienced all the seasons and have come to appreciate summer for the reflective nature of the slower, hotter, quieter months. The beaches are almost empty. The ocean creeps towards the ’80s. Even the riotous birds calm down. And, of course, there are invitations to meditate everywhere. Think languid. It’s the sophistication of the natural world writ large. You might even say it’s sexy (the Italians come en masse).

The programming is different from our workshops. It’s all optional and spacious by design. You’ll discover new practices for yourself through sessions with our teachers, curated local adventures, and, equally important, conversation and interactions with your SabSesh colleagues. In the spirit of “long-wavelength learning,” you’ll be encouraged to embed those new practices into your life so that when you return to your every day, SabSesh will come with you.

From Body Wisdom in July and August to Traditional Wisdom from various cultures in September, summer at MEA Baja is the blend of spacious “midlife wisdom school” programming with the community we love so much. A significant note is that many of the best sessions to date have been emergent, derived from guest conversation, guest requests, and intuitive design based on what is happening in the group.

SabSesh offers guests the perfect balance between vacation, curated local experiences, and up to 20 hours per week of optional programming—classroom sessions, yoga, exercise, art classes, and more. Solo travelers love SabSesh because of the warm welcome and instant community. Of course, communal dining facing the beach (sunrises and sunsets) is the secret sauce; there is no “new kid in the cafeteria” moment to navigate. Ever. Think of summer camp where all your friends are waiting. Only now you’re grown up and can make all your own choices.

And remember, more extended stays at SabSesh are pretty much always better. Fortunately, the pricing is designed to help make the long-stay decision as easy as an icy margarita on a hot summer day.

Extended stay pricing is as low as $200/per night, including all food and beverages (including alcohol) and all MEA programming (structured conversations, yoga, meditation, etc.). Taxes included. No hidden taxes or gratuity fees.

We can’t promise Brené will be joining you in Baja, but we can tell you that our SabSesh guests are just as enthusiastic about this part of our MEA program as our workshop attendees.

Okay, the travelogue is over! Hope to see you this summer. I think we all deserve a sabbatical.

P.S. Last chance to sign up for tomorrow’s free online event with me and Christian mystic Richard Rohr. We’d love to have you join us so register HERE.
