Procrastination is the Thief of Time

What are you ignoring, hoping that it will go away?

Is it that phone call you need to make to apologize to a family member?

Or maybe the graduate school application that is rotting in your desk drawer due to your inattention?

Or could it be that recurring dream telling you you’re supposed to go to pastry chef school?

Or when the heck are you going to make the pilgrimage to Baja or Santa Fe to experience an MEA workshop? Hint, hint. The sooner you come, the faster you’re feeling better about your life.

The older we get, the less time we have and, therefore, the more procrastination threatens us. Christopher Parker says, “Procrastination is like a credit card: it’s a lot of fun until you get the bill.”

So, what do you do?

Here are a few hacks: give yourself a reward once you accomplish that task (a bar of dark chocolate!!), break the task into smaller steps so it doesn’t feel too overwhelming, ask yourself “how much will I regret it if I don’t do this thing now?,” clear your calendar for a whole weekend day so that you have the time to give this attention, or find an accountability partner.

What are you pretending not to know?

You know it’s time. Get off your butt and do it. Don’t risk the fate of the unicorn.
