The Midlife “Reckoning Ball”

A deeply religious friend used to tell me, "When the day of reckoning arrives, we'll have to face some uncomfortable truths." I had never associated this idea with midlife, a life stage Brené Brown says we need to “unravel.” (https://bit.ly/3roPjO8)

Whether it’s a reckoning or an unraveling, midlife is a time to question everything. Our money or success script. Our definition of what makes us happy. Our dreaded obligations. Our attachment to personal identities or archetypes. Our belief that our body or business card defines us. Of course, some unpleasant truths may be meant to be revealed and reckoned with.

What if midlife was just one giant “reckoning ball”? A time when you take aim and blow up those outdated mindsets or ways of being that no longer serve you? That’s why people come to MEA—to find the tools, confidence, and social support to blast some of the past to smithereens. It’s also a place for animacy (being playful and alive) and intimacy (being deep and connected).

However, we don’t recommend you come to Baja with the intention of having a reckoning or wrecking experience like the one in this hilarious Instagram post: a bear’s reaction to seeing itself—waking up in midlife and not recognizing the reflection in the mirror.
