The Value of “Noble Experiments.”

"The purpose of life is to be defeated by greater and greater things." - Rainer Maria Rilke

In my entrepreneurial life, I’ve had my share of failures. But, rather than languish in regret, I’ve tried to learn from these and see them as “noble experiments.” If wisdom is all about metabolized experience, the experiences that most influence us are often the most painful—the ones where we skinned our knees and learned our lessons.

If you’re unwilling to fail, you’ve probably already reached your maximum potential. You don’t grow without pushing yourself. Of course, this requires a growth mindset—a desire to learn and improve. Without this frame of mind, we’d still be crawling.

I’ve been talking about this idea that failures are just noble experiments for more than 30 years, ever since I had three fledgling boutique hotels. Little did I know “Noble Experiment” is the name of a hipster bar in San Diego. I should have trademarked the term. LOL.

PS: A reminder to join me and Blue Zone’s founder Dan Buettner for a free-flow fireside chat on Optimizing Longevity – January 19th at 1:30 PT / 4:30 ET. We’ll dive deep into what’s essential to optimize longevity from purpose, wellness and community to cultivating a growth mindset and making small changes that can have a large impact. Register HERE.

I’ll also be co-leading a Baja Workshop With Dan with the same title for those that want to go deep in knowledge and practice of longevity. Mastery Week: Optimizing Longevity with the Blue Zones Founder March 28 – April 2, 2023.
