Navigating life’s hardest moments – and finding your way forward through fear, grief and change

When you're dealing with loss or your own impending mortality, it can feel like the ground beneath you has shifted—leaving you unmoored, uncertain, and searching for meaning.

Grief can make us feel lost, while the fear of death can keep us from truly living and making the most of the time we have left.

But what if, instead of resisting grief and death, we turned toward it with courage and curiosity?

That’s the invitation of Transitions in Loss: Death, Grief, and the Path to Healing, a transformative five-day workshop with Michael Hebb, founder of Death Over Dinner.

Through guided conversations, reflection, and community, you’ll explore what it means to face your mortality, embrace the grieving process, and ultimately find clarity and peace in life’s most difficult transitions.

This isn’t about despair—it’s about discovery. When we speak the unspoken, name our fears, and share our grief, something profound happens: we lighten the burden, deepen our connections, and uncover a renewed sense of purpose.

If you're navigating the fog of grief or wrestling with your own mortality, this workshop is for you.

When we face death, we learn how to truly live. Join Michael Hebb and the MEA team in Santa Fe to open up honest conversations about mortality, transform your relationship with grief, and deepen your connection—to yourself, your loved ones, and the life you have now.

What You’ll Gain

Through a blend of MEA curriculum and explorations that combine the spiritual, practical, existential, and commonsense best practices around death, you will:

  • Compassionately face your own grief and mortality in a way that’s not avoidant or repressive but open, curious, expansive, and real
  • Explore what the idea of death brings up for you – what is unsaid, what decisions you've made, and what decisions you want to make
  • Honor your ancestors and those who have gone before you by bringing them into your life in a way that feels momentous and powerful and meaningful to you
  • Heal areas in yourself where death and grief have caused an inability to connect with those closest to you
  • Form deep and meaningful bonds with others and yourself up to love and human connection
  • Clarify what gives your life joy and purpose and ensure that your days on this planet are filled with happiness and fulfillment

You will leave with a new sense of empowerment in your relationship to death and grief and a comprehensive end-of-life plan that you can share with your family and loved ones to ensure you have the meaningful experience you desire.

Michael Hebb

Founder of Death Over Dinner

Author | Entrepreneur | Speaker | Activist

Michael is the Founder of Life Over Dinner. He currently serves as a Board Member of Village Health Works and as Board Advisor (Emeritus) at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts. In the recent past, he served as a Partner at RoundGlass and Senior Advisor to Summit Series, Theo Chocolate, CreativeLive, Architecture For Humanity, and Mosaic Voices Foundation.

Michael’s groundbreaking work with Death Over Dinner emerged from his own early encounters with mortality. After losing his father to Alzheimer's at age thirteen, Hebb developed a profound understanding of how challenging end-of-life conversations can be – and how essential. Named an "underground restaurateur, impresario and provocateur" by The New York Times, he has transformed this personal experience into a global movement.

Launched 12 years ago, Death Over Dinner provides a framework for people to gather around a meal and engage in meaningful conversations about mortality. The initiative has grown exponentially, with over one million people participating in these transformative dinners worldwide, making it one of the most successful end-of-life awareness campaigns ever created.

A captivating speaker, Hebb has shared his insights through a widely-viewed TEDMED talk and numerous speaking engagements at universities and conferences globally. His second book, Let's Talk About Death (Over Dinner) continues to expand this vital work. His approach combines the intimacy of shared meals with carefully crafted conversation tools, proving that the dinner table can be one of our most powerful venues for transformative dialogue.

Meet Your MEA Facilitators

In addition to the powerful sessions conducted by Michael Hebb, you will be guided through the core MEA curriculum by our seasoned facilitators:

Death has always been one of our primary teachers.

Facing our mortality can lead us down a path of inquiry that gives our life shape, purpose and meaning. When we compassionately embrace our own death and grief with intention and humility, it is less frightening and can be a realm of great inspiration and vitality that evokes great awakening and significant healing.

Are you ready to discover a new sense of empowerment in your relationship to death and grief?

People come for the workshops,
but they stay for the community

This is truly MEA’s “secret sauce” and something you can only experience in person: the powerful connections you will make, not only with your fellow participants and the incredible MEA faculty, but also the deeper sense of connection you will feel to your own inner self and the natural world around you.

Research into aging shows that your relationships play a HUGE role in your health and wellbeing later in life. At MEA, you will make deep and lasting connections and become part of a larger community that will make your life richer and more meaningful.

Many of our alumni cohorts have stayed in close touch for years after their workshop and we have a growing number of local alumni chapters all over the world. It’s a joy for us to see them continuing to offer each other community, friendship, and support as they create thriving midlives for themselves. So if you have been feeling at all disconnected or isolated on your journey, we would love to have you join us!
